About Elmer Williams:

Elmer has recently published a book called “Whatever Happen To COMMON SENSE.” He also has an EBook called “How to Use Common Sense for a Happy Life.” The motivation behind both books was to promote common sense.
Elmer grew up with 2 brothers and one sister, and neither his mother or father attended college. His father started his own Air Conditioning Services business, and taught a good work ethic to Elmer and his brothers. They would often go to work with him in the summer.
From an early age Elmer did not like people sugarcoating things when they gave him an answer. It got him in trouble sometimes but he was always content with who he was. He was always very stubborn and strong-willed. He was not his mother's or father's favorite child. His mom was more preferential toward his two brothers, while his father showed partiality to his sister. He was the second child born to the family, and his father’s first born son. Early on it bothered him that he was not one of the favorites but these tribulations made him the person that he is today.
Elmer doesn’t mind standing alone on issues, and he has no problem speaking his mind when he feels that he’s absolutely right. He likes to get along with people, but not at the expense of compromising his core beliefs. He would like to think that those core beliefs are grounded and rooted in truth.
Elmer says, “Being a black conservative is not very popular in today’s world. When I was younger I leaned toward liberal viewpoints, but as I got older and learned more, I began to have a more conservative view on worldly issues. Despite not being the favorite child, God has been good to me over the years. It is God who has given me the courage and the will to stand firm in spite of many setbacks. I have learned not to make excuses or have pity parties with myself over things that I cannot control.”
“Sometimes I ask myself, ‘Would I change anything that I have been through in my life to get to this present place in which I find myself?" It is a question that requires much introspection. However I believe everything happens for a reason, and many times we are the cause of most of our own problems. I don't believe that I would change much, because I am satisfied with the person that I have become. We all wish that we could be better people, morally, mentally, and emotionally. But don’t let this bog you down in the quicksand of your thoughts, making you unproductive.”
Elmer is a believer in turning the page and moving on, thereby promoting growth. “You cannot drive looking out of you rearview mirrors or you will have a wreck in life,” he says. “Learn to use common sense in moving on, and disposing of bad relationships. Some people may be holding you back and hindering your growth. Anything that is not growing is dying and you should not be making funeral arrangements for yourself. Remember that you should not ‘give a rats behind’ about what most people think of you. If you are going to be happy in life it only matters what God thinks of you and how your loved ones see you. Sometimes you will need to take a stand all alone and you must be strong when that time comes. Prepare like a good soldier so when the battles come, you will be ready.
